Reservoir Rock-Fluid Interaction Laboratory

The RRFI Lab is dedicated to advancing both fundamental and applied research relevant to the upstream oil and gas industry and allied sectors. The lab conducts fundamental scientific investigations, including experimental and computational studies of fluid flow in complex pore geometries and networks, alongside applied research addressing key industry challenges such as the low cost enhanced oil recovery, separation of highly emulsified water from crude oil and the development of sustainable flow assurance solutions for high wax crude oil. The lab is equipped with experimental facilities for high-pressure and high-temperature microfluidic flow studies, core flooding experiments, rheological measurements, rock wetting, microscopy, and materials synthesis. In addition to in-house capabilities, the lab also utilizes diverse experimental and computational resources available within the institute. The RRFI Lab actively partners with industry to develop innovative technologies and deliver practical solutions to oil-field problems. The lab’s research activities are driven by a highly motivated team of PhD, masters, and undergraduate students, supported by research associates and interns.
